Each year hundreds of thousands of Americans opt to get BOTOX® injections in order to create a more youthful appearance. But what if those injections could actually turn back time on your facial skin? A new research study is suggesting that this may just be the case. It was recently released that BOTOX® may serve a larger purpose than just paralyzing facial muscles to give you a younger appearance. The study which was conducted by a group of plastic surgeons showed that BOTOX® treatments aid in the skins ability to stretch and recoil, increasing elasticity.
When following and examining a group of 48 women that were given BOTOX® injections for the first time, researchers found a change in composition that mimicked that of more youthful skin. Though researchers don’t know exactly why BOTOX® has this effect on skin, there are a number of theories going around on the matter.
Prior studies have shown that those who get BOTOX® on a more consistent basis are able to go longer periods between injections and can also get lower doses over time. The team of plastic surgeons who conducted this latest research are now planning to investigate whether or not extended use of BOTOX® results in long-term benefits for the face.
