Drawing from recent statistics, the cosmetic industry will continue to grow in 2018. Cosmetic procedures grew 3 percent in 2016 over the previous year. We will soon learn how many people underwent cosmetic procedures in 2017, but most likely the rate will continue to increase. There were 17.1 million cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S. in 2016, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
In 2018, we think men and women in the U.S. may have the following priorities in mind when they seek out cosmetic rejuvenation and treatments:
- Effectiveness. When people invest their time and money into cosmetic treatments, they want the best possible results. It sounds simple, but it is so important. Your cosmetic results should look great. Natural, attractive and rejuvenating.
- Time it takes to see results. Understandably, today's cosmetic patient wants to see effective results quickly. Many are turning to injectables and non-surgical treatments that present less of a commitment than surgery. 15.5 million minimally invasive cosmetic procedures were completed in 2016, compared to 1.8 million cosmetic surgical procedures. It's likely this trend will continue in 2018.
- Invasiveness. In addition to wanting to see results quickly, people prefer minimal downtime and recovery. Many of the non-invasive treatments today allow you to get right back to your normal activities – no downtime, no recovery.
Stigma is a thing of the past: With increasing numbers of cosmetic patients, one could make the conclusion that these types of treatments and procedures are becoming less taboo or stigmatized than they have been in decades past. People are realizing that self-care includes looking and feeling your best, and you deserve to feel your best.
