How to Know When It’s Time to Try Something NEW

Moving from the predictable to the unknown. It’s hard to do. You’re safe with what you know and what you’re used to, but is it right for us to assume you’re not safe with what you don’t know or what you’re not used to? It’s safe to say it’s different.

 

What influences then our decision to try something new? It doesn’t just come out of nowhere. We go through so much in life that forces us out of our comfort zones every once and a while. It’s what creates strength, confidence and growth. The benefits of trying something new far outweigh the risks…. unless trying something new is extremely dangerous to your health (which then we’d strongly advise against), but we’re going to focus on the “good new”. The kind that is extremely worth it, the kind that makes you better in whatever way you’re looking to improve.

 

A few factors encourage trying something new:

 

  • BOREDOM: Feel like you’re stuck on auto-pilot? Mix it up. Boredom can inspire trial and adventure.

 

  • INTRIQUE: Pure, complete interest in something to a point where you need to try it, you need to do it, have it, engage with it, etc. This one appeals to the senses. What does it look, sound like, and feel like? What will it make me feel? What will it make me look like?

 

  • OPPORTUNITY: When it comes to your personal or professional life, there are so many ways to try something new. A job offer, studying abroad, a trip of a lifetime, an internship, kids activities, life decisions. Life is full of opportunities to try something new – you just have to be open to recognizing them and assessing if they’re good for you.

 

Necessity is another driver, but we want this to be about you making the decision because you want to, not because you need to. I think all of us have done something new out of need in our lives.
