Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that results in skin redness and raised sores similar in appearance to acne. The causes of rosacea are not understood, but you may be at an increased risk if you are:
- 30-50 years of age
- A woman
However, men often have more severe rosacea symptoms. Rosacea is not dangerous or harmful, but the symptoms can be embarrassing, especially because people often cannot tell the difference between rosacea and acne.
Rosacea’s most common symptom is facial redness, but it may also result in:
- Excessive blushing
- Spider veins in the face
- Bulbous red nose
- Acne-like sores
- Facial burning
Optical rosacea affects your eyes. It is related and results in redness and light sensitivity.
Although rosacea cannot be cured, at the Facial Aesthetics spa we offer many treatments that can minimize the appearance and severity of rosacea outbreaks. IPL (intense pulsed light), microdermabrasion, and facials are all rosacea treatments that are effective and noninvasive. We can also recommend at-home care products.
