Restylane® is a popular type of dermal filler that is designed to restore volume in your facial skin – correcting wrinkles and nasolabial folds (laugh lines), and improving contours in your nose, cheeks, and chin. The gel is composed of a non-animal-based hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in your skin tissue. This makes Restylane® fully biocompatible: no allergy testing will be required beforehand.

In order to understand how Restylane® works, you must first understand what happens when your skin ages. Over time, your facial skin begins to produce less hyaluronic acid. This acid plays a key role in helping your skin absorb and retain moisture. Additionally, hyaluronic acid helps transport essential nutrients to your skin cells. As you age and the presence of this acid diminishes, your skin is left more vulnerable to wrinkles, folds, and hollows.

Restylane® works by replenishing the amount of hyaluronic acid in your skin. The acid molecules attract moisture and help lock it into the space between your skin cells. This not only hydrates your skin, but increases its density and volume as well. A single Restylane® treatment can last for six months or more.
