Dermaplaning is an exfoliation method. At Facial Aesthetics, we often recommend dermaplaning to patients who would like a quick, effective way to refresh their skin. This exfoliating facial treatment leads to smoother, revitalized skin. To learn more, please call Facial Aesthetics in Denver, at 303-377-2868, or in Greenwood Village, at 303-791-1820.
Dermaplaning at Facial Aesthetics: Dermaplaning can be an added treatment, complementing the results of other facial treatments. It can also be performed alone. When completed as a single treatment, we offer a complimentary chemical peel and LED light treatment along with it! Once our experienced Medical Aestheticians have assessed your skin type, we can decide if an added treatment will work for you, but typically a chemical peel or facial mask is always included.
Dermaplaning Exfoliates Old, Dull Skin Cells
The purpose of dermaplaning is two-fold: For one, it removes the dull, damaged and dead cells that make up the top layer of your skin. Second, it removes "vellus" hairs, which are the soft, blond hairs that you may find on your upper lip, and possibly on your cheeks, forehead and chin. This hair is also known as peach fuzz. Dermaplaning cannot remove "terminal" hairs, which include your eyebrows and nose hair. Microdermabrasion is similar to dermaplaning, but does not remove vellus hairs.
In addition to generally improving the radiance of your skin, and producing a smooth, silky feel, dermaplaning can address specific skin conditions:
- Acne scarring
Furthermore, exfoliating the top layer of skin cells triggers the natural regeneration of new skin cells. This can lead to a luminous, healthy glow. Plus, for the first day or so, the newly exfoliated skin will be very absorbent. It is a great time to apply serums, creams and other products as recommended by our Medical Aestheticians, when the skin will accept them more readily.
Your Dermaplaning Appointment
The process is painless, effective and relatively fast. At one of our two comfortable office locations, you can relax under the care of our experienced Medical Aestheticians. Dermaplaning looks and feels like someone is shaving your skin. But the surgical blade used by our Medical Aestheticians is sharper than any home razor. Most patients equate the treatment to the sensation of shaving. We will be checking in with you throughout, to make sure that you are comfortable.
It is nothing less than critical to find an experienced, licensed medical professional to perform dermaplaning. The internet is unfortunately rife with examples of DIY dermaplaning, but this is never a good idea. Not only are home razors dull and prone to cutting the skin, but there is a specific technique in which we are trained and experienced. This is a medical-grade treatment, after all. Your Medical Aesthetician will hold your skin taut while gently and precisely removing the outer layer of skin cells. A specific pattern is used across the entire face, and the blade must be held at the right angle to cleanly remove the cells.
Will My Hair Grow Back Thicker?
Not at all! This common misconception about dermaplaning is a persistent one. Shaving, waxing, dermaplaning, threading – your hair will not grow back thicker or darker, but will instead be the same color and thickness as if you had not performed the hair reduction in the first place.
Dermaplaning can be repeated every 4 to 6 weeks. So it works along with your natural hair growth cycle.
