Stretch marks are a common concern among women. A woman’s body goes through so much. While stretch marks are harmless, many people find themselves unhappy with the way they appear on their bodies. If stretch marks are a concern for you, we offer treatment options that can help.
Stretch marks can appear on many different areas of the body, including: breasts, hips, buttocks, thighs, abdomen, and arms. They appear when the skin is stretched over a short period of time. As the skin stretches, collagen and elastin within the tissue ruptures, which is what causes the appearance of a raised streak. When they first form, these marks can be itchy and red.
Some of the most common causes of stretch marks include pregnancy, rapid weight gain, puberty, rapid muscle building, such as from weightlifting, or frequent and prolonged use of topical corticosteroid. Stretch marks may lighten and fade over time. As they heal themselves, the marks may sink into the skin, becoming less raised in appearance. They may feel like thin, shallow depressions. Despite fading of the streaks, many people remain dissatisfied and self-conscious with the permanent appearance of these marks. Our experienced team finds the most effective treatments to be those that work on various levels, not just the skin’s surface. After assessing the age and extent of the marks, our team will be able to recommend the most effective course of treatment. In most cases, the newer the stretch mark the easier it is to treat with less treatments. That isn’t to say that we can’t treat older marks, it’s just that the results may not be as profound, or may require multiple sessions.
